Mating a part to a routing pipe

2011-01-21

Please can someone explain how I can mate a part (ball valve) to a pipe part (created in routing). When I try and mate the part SW brings up a box that says "The selected component is a pipe part. Mates cannot be created to pipe parts".

How do I get around this problem.

The correct way would be to add route points in the ball-valve part and put in the route.

If you do not want to do that, create a 3d sketch and use convert edge command on the end of the pipe. Then mate to that, concentric (circle) and distance (point).

Adding the necessary point to the ball valve and inserting it into a route is the optimal way to achieve this result. If you really really need the ball valve mate instead though, you can use the 3-d sketch that created the route. Just show the 3-d sketch under the Route feature in the subassembly and mate accordingly. no need to add the intermediate sketch as described above.
